XW INFLUENCES PART TWO: SNOW CRASH

[Heyo! To promote my ongoing Kickstarter campaign for Crossed Wires Volume 1, I’m writing a series of short essays on works of film and literature that have influenced Crossed Wires’s creation. If you’d like to read the comic, you can at http://crossedwires.irisjay.net, and if you’d like to pre-order a slick, fancy printed copy of Volume 1, you can at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/irisjay/crossed-wires-volume-1. Peace!]

What happens when a book written to ridicule a zeitgeist becomes something that defines it instead?

Another Crossed Wires Volume 1 guest piece! This one is by Aramis September, longtime friend and MASTER INKER. Look at that beautiful linework!! AGH SCHIELE LOOKS SO COMPLETELY COOL.

Remember, you have only three weeks left to preorder a delightful physical printed copy of Crossed Wires Volume 1 (as well as any of our nifty campaign perks)! Currently we’re still stuck at juuuuuust under 30% funded, so please help if you can– even sharing with your friends would be super useful. Thanks!

XW INFLUENCES PART ONE: HACKERS

[Heyo! To promote my ongoing Kickstarter campaign for Crossed Wires Volume 1, I’m writing a series of short essays on works of film and literature that have influenced Crossed Wires’s creation. (I was thinking about calling it “Legacy Systems” but I should probably strive for clarity, lol.) If you’d like to read the comic, you can at http://crossedwires.irisjay.net, and if you’d like to pre-order a slick, fancy printed copy of Volume 1, you can at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/irisjay/crossed-wires-volume-1. HACKERS. Film. 1995, dir. Iain Softley.

I’ve said it dozens of times, to countless people, but I can’t repeat it enough: Crossed Wires would not exist, would not exist, if Dade Murphy had worn that dress to his date with Kate Libby at the end of the movie.

Guest Art: POOL PARTY

Our first featured piece of guest art for Crossed Wires Volume 1! This one is by Talbert Johnson, whose work can be found at http://whatatinybug.tumblr.com. As seen here, his crisp, enticing cartooning skills are only matched by his twisted, sadistic mind. How COULD you, Talbert? First you bricked up all the bathrooms in the house, and now THIS?? (Seriously, though: Thank you so much!)

ALSO, UPDATE: We finally broke $1000, which means we’re 1/6th of the way there! YAY! Also, we’ve been chosen as a “PROJECTS WE LOVE” on Kickstarter, which means we’ll pop up on the front page every so often! There’s no such thing as bad publicity, but good publicity is preferable, and this is some great publicity.

Let’s keep up the pace! I’ll upload another guest piece when we hit $2K! Remember to keep an eye on my Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook accounts for more updates. I’ve kind of been trying to get #CrossedWires started as a hashtag, so if you want to talk about it with other XW fans that’s a good way to start! And if you think you know friends who are into webcomics, queer literature, hacking, cyberpunk stuff, or just a good-ass time, send them our way!

BYTE ME

An illustration done for the Crossed Wires Volume 1 Kickstarter campaign! This will be a campaign-exclusive 2-inch button for $55-tier backers and up. The piece is inspired by this t-shirt of Alan’s from Chapter 01— a little obscure, but something I’ve wanted to do a hi-res version of since forever. Alan probably owns at least more than one computer-related BAD DOGZ t-shirt.

Our Kickstarter campaign goes until November 9th! We’ve got plenty of cool perks up for grabs, as well as the printed books themselves! Please consider helping us birth our beautiful book baby by checking out the KS page HERE: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/irisjay/crossed-wires-volume-1

Thanks!
